Frequency of Congenital Hypothyroidism in Newborn at Tertiary Care Hospital in Quetta

Objective: To determine the frequency of congenital hypothyroidism (CH) in newborn at tertiary care hospital Quetta, Pakistan. Study design: Cross-sectional study. Place and Duration: The Department Paediatrics, Unit-II, Bolan Medical College Hospital, Pakistan from January 2022 to June 2022. Methodology: Neonates both genders born with birth weight above 1500 grams having gestational age 28 weeks, presenting between 3 5 days following were analyzed. At time enrollment, demographic characteristics neonates noted screening CH was done. labeled as serum TSH ≥ 20mU/ml T4 < 9 pmol/l. Results: During study period, a total 383 per inclusion/exclusion criteria There 239 (62.4%) boys 144 (37.6%) girls. mean 3.87+0.843 days. level 12.807+5.11 mU/ml (ranging 7 50 mU/ml). We that found 10 (2.6%). Practical Implications: reported seems higher compared contemporary literature which raises importance programs national level. Conclusion: 2.6% among newborns Keywords: Congenital hypothyroidism, newborn, thyroid-stimulating hormone.
